One of the ancillary skills that my profession requires is to be able to quickly judge character. It’s something that I’ve gotten pretty good at, and I’m fortunate in that I’m rarely wrong.

My finely honed instincts told me within 30 seconds that I would adore Liza + Win. I just didn’t realize how true that feeling was.

Maybe it’s because they got married at Peche at Sherman Mills, and at the time of our meeting I lived, literally, upstairs from this unique venue. It might be because they chose the incredible (seriously. I would hire them for my own wedding) Roots & Groove to DJ their reception. Or because my pal Beke Beau did the makeup. Or the amazing cupcakes from Brown Betty. Or the beautiful, sustainable flowers from Love n’ Fresh. Or maybe it’s just because they are really awesome, down to earth, caring, fun, interesting, honest people. Or it’s because they really like my dog.

Whatever it was, I’m truly lucky to know them.

I’ve often said that I love what I do because weddings are a microcosm of human emotion. Marissa + Patrick’s wedding certainly fit the bill.

It was a rainy day at Mercer Oaks, but that didn’t stop anyone from having a great time. Their closest friends and family came to celebrate and laugh with a couple so clearly right for each other, and to honor and remember Patrick’s brother and best man who was tragically killed while serving in Afghanistan. It was a day that covered the full spectrum of emotion, and I was honored to be there to document it.

It’s days like their’s that serve as reminders that what matters isn’t the centerpieces or programs or details. It’s the connection between a couple and the support of those closest to them.

Marissa + Patrick – thank you.

Jen + Steven’s crazy, awesome, insane, amazing day saw my return to the Palace in Somerset, NJ. I should have known their day was going to be incredible. They are, after all, clearly made for each other. Just look at Steven’s reaction the first time he saw his bride!

Their wonderful family and friends truly made this a day to remember. Everything – from the abundance of great food (and desserts!) to the details to the dress to the venue – complimented their personalities, their relationship, and their hopes for the future.

J + S – thank you for letting me document your day!
