When you look past the elegant dresses, fancy flowers, food, details, seating charts, song choices, and drama, a wedding is nothing more than a ceremony affirming two people’s love for each other and desire to spend the rest of their lives together. A wedding doesn’t require anything more than two people in love, some of the people closest to them, and someone that can legally perform the ceremony (and a good photographer to capture it for posterity. Sheryl + Steve understand this and their wedding was a beautifully intimate affair. They had at the historic Powell House in center city on stunning spring day. They were surrounded by their closest family and friends, had one of their friends perform the ceremony, and focused on the love that they palpably share. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing Margarita + Ilya’s big day at the DuPont Country Club with my good friend Bart Breslow.

2nd shooting is always a wonderful change of pace for me. It can be extremely liberating to see things from a different perspective and try out some new ideas that are more difficult when you’re the primary photographer. Also, since the primary photographer is usually responsible for all of the image processing, I have the ability to do things in a slightly different way.

For Margarita + Ilya’s wedding, I decided to create a purely black + white slideshow. It seemed to fit the classic and timeless feel of their day. The slideshow is below, and you can click here for a larger version…

Writing about the weddings I photograph is actually one of the more difficult things I do, and for good reason. I’ve been so lucky to work with so many great couples that the pool of adjectives I can pull from usually doesn’t completely convey their unique awesomeness. Instead, I try to rely on my work to tell the story and convey their personalities. I’m a visual storyteller, not a verbal one. Trying to write about Melissa + Brian seems like a fool’s errand, so I will simply say this – they are among the most wonderful and warm people I’ve had the opportunity of working with. They had a fantastic day for their wedding. Jim and the crew at Overbrook Golf Club did an outstanding job making sure everything went smoothly. This was also my first time getting to work with Jeffrey Stoner Video from Orlando, FL. Because of some scheduling and location changes, M + B had originally booked Jeffrey for a wedding in Florida. When they decided to move the wedding up here, he was kind enough to accommodate them, and I’m sure glad he did. He’s among the best videographers I’ve ever worked with. Besides being a really nice guy, we share similar styles, approaches, and philosophies. It was a pleasure to work with him.
